Past Events
Hack the Interview (09/24/22)
Are you interested in securing technology-related internships? What about practicing for them in the presence of friends, pizza boxes, and refreshments? On Saturday, September 24th, we will be attacking problems in LeetCode, a website with interview questions asked again and again by employers, while competing against other teams for prizes. Take advantage of this prime introduction to the interview preparation process by coming to The Cave between 2 and 5 PM. This event is open to anyone, not just women and non-binary students.
Technica (10/15/22-10/16/22)
A female and non-binary hackathon at University of Maryland, College Park, that eight members woke up on 5 AM to attend.
What's Next in CS After UR?: Ask Alumni (10/23/22)
Curious about what successful alumni have done at UR to break into industry and graduate school? Not sure how to spend your next summer so that you can stand out in the application process? Come to the Cave at 5:30 PM! We will be hosting alumni via Zoom to answer your questions and talk about their experiences with CS at UR and beyond.
Professional Headshots (11/13/22)
If you are interested in getting your headshot taken and edited on Sunday, November 13th, please fill out the following form with your preferred time. This opportunity is open to both current officers and members. If you can't make Sunday but still want a headshot, Tenzin and I can work to get you one on another day.
Code Green (02/10/23)
On February 10th from 3 to 5 PM in the Green 100s, Girls Who Code at the University of Richmond will be hosting an electronic waste hackathon at CodeRVA. Free pizza will be provided, along with prizes for the winning teams! The software we'll be using is block-coding based (MIT App Inventor, Scratch, etc.). In other words, no matter what programming language background you're from, you'll be more than ready to tackle and raise awareness about electronic waste on Friday.
College Loops Challenge (02/20/22-04/24/22)
The College Loops Challenge is an opportunity to get together with a team of Loop members and work on a project with shared goals. The theme for this year was Beyond the Classroom, for which we collaborated with María Zambrano-Dávila to bring attention to the role that personal relationships play in maintaining mental health. Specifically, we coded an Arduino Uno to power strings of LED lights when the user types in their answer of who has helped them heal, along with turn off the lights when they input something that they'd want to tell them. Thank you to Paean Luby, Na'Dyah Wynn, and Tolya Evdokimov is being part of this year's team.
ACM Capital Region Celebration of Women in Computing (03/31/23-04/01/23)
Four members of Girls Who Code earned scholarships to attend CAPWIC, a computing conference held at Virginia Union University, including a variety of panels, workshops, guest speakers, sponsor tables, and swag.
